Dictate with the keyboard mic.
Your phone or computer can type what you say using its built-in dictation feature. This is free on every YearCraft plan and does not use your voice-entry allowance. YearCraft receives the text, but never the audio from your keyboard’s microphone.
- Open Journal, then New entry, or choose Write today’s entry on Today. Select the writing area.
- Start your device’s dictation. On iPhone, tap the microphone at the bottom of the keyboard. On a Mac, use the dictation key or the dictation shortcut you’ve set. On Windows, press the Windows key + H.
- Speak. The words appear in the entry, where you can edit them.
- Stop dictation when you’re done. On the web, the entry saves automatically. On iPhone, tap Save entry, or Save changes for an existing entry.
Keyboard mic or Dictate?
YearCraft’s Dictate button records a voice entry that Juniper turns into text. It can also keep the recording for playback. On Free, a saved voice entry counts toward your 3 voice entries a month.
Your keyboard’s microphone only enters text. It works with AI sharing off and after you’ve used your monthly voice entries.
Good to know
Dictated text follows the same sharing rules as typed text. With AI sharing on, an untitled entry’s text can be sent to an AI provider to create its title. Asking Juniper for journal ideas also sends recent entries.
If you want to keep the recording and have Juniper turn it into text, record a voice entry.
