Why I made YearCraft.

Hey adventurers,

YearCraft is an app I’ve been building for myself on nights and weekends over the last few years. It’s been a passion project I’ve sunk countless hours into, trying to build something that feels perfectly tailored for setting and achieving goals without it turning into a part-time job.

Growing up in Boy Scouts, I learned about setting goals. The kinds of goals I set have changed, but the lessons have stayed with me. Some years, I just write down a couple of things I want to achieve, and other years, I’ll dedicate an entire Saturday or Sunday to writing a detailed “year in review” and then breaking my goals down into bite-sized chunks.

I’ve also been writing in a journal on and off since I was a little kid. It was originally something my mom made me do, but it grew into a lifelong love of writing. For me, keeping a journal is what helps me stick with my goals. It’s a daily reminder of the person I’m trying to become.

There’s nothing wrong with writing a list on notebook paper and sticking it to your mirror. But I wanted something with a little more structure, without having to join a goal-setting cult.

That’s where YearCraft fits in. It brings together what I’ve learned from setting goals for 30+ years and building software for 20+ years.
